A $1.5 billion agreement has been signed between Pakistan and China for the construction of Azad Pattan hydropower project. Prime Minister Imran Khan was also present on the occasion.
The 700.7MW Azad Pattan hydropower project is located on the river Jhelum in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It is expected to complete in year 2026.
In November 2019 Pakistan and China agreed to include the project under CPEC. The project will not involve fuel import and has the lowest tariff among all big hydropower projects in private sector.
